Abstract

A dual-polarized broadband folded cross-dipole base station antenna is presented. The antenna consists of two pairs of folded dipoles, each printed on one side of a low cost dielectric. Each pair is excited by a coaxial feed in a manner that one arm is soldered to the core of the coaxial line, while the other arm is connected to the outer side of an SMA connector, namely ground, by a small strip. Four parasitic elements are placed at the ends of each folded dipole to control the antenna impedance matching performance, and to enhance the purity of radiation pattern, especially at the upper end frequencies of operating band. To obtain a unidirectional radiation pattern, a solid reflector of λ/4 spacing is positioned at the back of the antenna. Measured results show S11<−10dB at the range of 1.41-3.26 GHz(79.2%,1.85GHz) with S21<−31.7dB. At the conference, details of the design steps, modal analysis, measured radiation results, and a 1×8 elements array antenna will be introduced.
