Abstract

AcompactUWB-MIMOantenna is designed and fabricated using a tapered feeding method conductor and a unique fractal horn-shaped patch to meet the needs of contemporary wireless applications in this study. The patch shape and novel semi-pistol shaped stub were used to provide UWBantenna and overcome some of the substrate’s technical restrictions in the unit cell antenna. This antenna operates in a wide impedance bandwidth of the 9.5 GHzUWBspectrum, which covers the frequencies of 2.81 to greater than 12.3 GHz. The total area of the unit cell antenna is 20×16mm2 which has been printed on inexpensive substrate of FR4. Adual port multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system with an overall size of 34×20mm2 is constructed using the compact unit cell antenna. The low-profile configuration of the proposed dual portMIMOantenna includes two symmetrical unit cell antennas connected by a rectangle-shaped structure in the ground layer. The obtained results of prototype antenna are confirmed that the proposedMIMOantenna has good diversity metrics due to providing low values of channel capacity losses (CCL<0.28 bits/s/Hz), envelope correlation coefficient by far-field radiation less than 0.0026, conventional mean effective gain (MEGratio=0,MEG<0.45), diversity gain of fewer than 9.98 dB and low mutual coupling result. A maximum peak gain value of 6.12dBi is provided for the antenna at operating frequency of 12.1 GHz.
