Abstract

Chickpea is one of the major crops in Kurdistan and root rot and crown chickpea caused significant losses to this crop yield. In order to determine the fungi causing root and crown rot of chickpea in Kurdistan province, some samples were collected in three steps of seedling, flowering and podding till seed hardening during to agricultural seasons of 2005 in Marivan, Ghorvah, Cervabad, Saghes, Kamyaran, Dehgolan and the others different parts of the province. Disease symptoms consisted of reduced growth, wilting and root rot. Infected root tissues were surface sterilized in 5% sodium hypochlorite and cultured on PDA and on antibiotic medium. I 08 isolates were collected and divided on the basis of morphological characters. Of each groups, 2 isolates were selected at random on which Pathogenicity test and identification made. Pathogenicity test were carried out by seed inoculation, root dip and Rice & Geraldj techniques. The results showed that, among all pathogens, Fusarium oxysporum and F. so/ani with 42 and 25 isolates had the most abundance, respectively. Rhizoctonia so/ani, Tiarosporella phaseolina and Pythium ultimum, with 17, 13 and 8 isolates had then the most abundance rate, respectively. Contamination average in the seedling, flowering and podding till seed hardening steps are 8.5o/o, II%, 18% respectively.
