Abstract

Grapevine trunk diseases are the main restraining factors in the production of grapes around the world. Among the fungi associated with trunk diseases of grape Botryosphaeriaceae members such as Neofusicoccum parvum are well-known. Plants use the sophisticated defense system such as the production of secondary metabolites in response to the biotic and abiotic stresses. Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) and polyphenol oxidases (PPO) are two important defense genes involved in response to various stresses such as pathogens attack. In this study, expression of Glutathione S-transferase-1 (GST1) and Polyphenol oxidase-1 (GPO1) genes of grape were examined. The experiment was conducted using factorial experiment based on a completely randomized design and LSD test, in three replications and six time points after inoculation with N. parvum and three control samples. The obtained results indicate that the defense genes, particularly GST1 and GPO1 compared to the reference gene were significantly induced at 12, 36 and 48 hours after infection, respectively.
