The geological region of Zagros and adjacent areas, especially the province of Kurdistan, is considered due to its geological diversity. The operation of different lithological-structural zones in this region has made the formation of various mineral deposits possible, including gemstone deposits. Two main areas are important here: First, the ophiolitic masses remaining from the oceanic crust of Neotetis located in the margin of the high Zagros uplift zone adjacent to the Sanandaj-Sirjan metamorphic belt, in the northwestern parts of Kurdistan province of Iran specially and parts of the Iraqi Kurdistan zone. It has made the potential of minerals and rock gems available. Second, the regional metamorphic series in the Sanandaj-Sirjan metamorphic belt within the province of Kurdistan and the adjacent part of the Iraqi Kurdistan zone has access to the potential of host rocks containing gemstones. In this speech, we try to emphasize the richness of Kurdistan province and neighbouring areas of the Iraqi Kurdistan zone in terms of the formation of gemstone potentials to remind the significance of focusing on this part of the geological studies of ore deposits.
