A pickup system was designed and developed to use for harvesting of leafy vegetables such as spinach. Using such system helps to have clean harvested crops and decrease mechanical crop damages during harvesting. The pickup system was designed and developed based on a prototype and practical conditions. The system consists of a chain and some picker fingers which are vertically fixed on the chain. By passing the chain around pulleys, the distance between two sequential fingers increases and the cut plants locate in between. The plants convey backward by in line moving of the chain and finally the transmitted plants fall by increasing the distance between the fingers around the rear pulley. The system was tested after construction by focusing on those parameters which can affect on the system performance. The best performance was achieved at the position angle of 13 degree for the chain, finger length of 14cm, inter-row distance of 15 cm, vehicle speed of 2 km/hr and plant height of 15 cm.
