In this work, we report the regio- and stereoselective formation of functionalized β-chlorohydrins 2 from the reaction of α-epoxyketones 1 with AlCl3 in MeCN at room temperature. The procedure is simple and the reaction conditions are mild. In comparison to the previous reports, significant improvements are observed in the reaction times and the regio- and stereoselectivy of the reaction.
