Abstract

Flowers have long been associated with each civilization and culture in the world. Bulbs have a long and glamorous history as garden plants. More than 200 species of bulbous plants from the major families including Liliaceae,Iridaceae and Amaryllidaceae grown in Iran and play an important role in the colorful display of flowers found in the plains, mountains and forests. It should be noted that some species from other families including Araceae,Orchidaceae,Fumariaceae, Polyphyllaceae,Geraniaceaeand Ranunculaceae have also high horticultural and ornamental values not previously covered intensively. Therefore, in this minireview, some of these flower bulbs with highly valuable ornamental and horticultural characteristics are briefly introduced.
