Abstract

Presenting an introductory discussion on the overlapping keywords and major definitions in the area of subjectivity including the grammatical, juridico-political, and philosophical designations, the seminar focuses on the categorization of subjectivity with reference to the prehistory, development, and concepts of the term in the human sciences. Next, The subject/other relations in the Cartesian, Hegelian, and Lacanian senses are analyzed. The eclectic model of subjectivity addressees the ideological discourses and the role played by language in identity construction. The constituent egos of subjectivity are named and explored in terms of their relationship with each other and with the dominant subjectivity. Different sets of the others are then introduced regarding their representations in identity including the external and internal others. It is argued that ideological discourse and ego are the ‘other’ to the manifest ideals of the subject’s rational and aesthetic egos.
