Abstract

One of the biggest scientific challenges today is the disposal or recycling of environmental waste. In this research work, the worn tire was used as a precursor in the synthesis of nanocomposites. In this context, first, tire-derived activated carbon (AC), which is a common material of supercapacitor electrodes, was obtained using pyrolysis and chemical activation. Then, to increase the energy density and improve the capacitive properties of activated carbon, polyaniline pseudo capacitor were used on the conductive carbon substrate and AC/PANI nanocomposite were synthesized. The electrochemical behavior of nanocomposites was investigated by cyclic voltammetry methods and charge/discharge technique in 1.0 M H2SO4 solution. The results showed that synthetic nanocomposites have good stability and high capacitance. By using these nanocomposites as supercapacitor electrodes, we saw a specific capacity of 260 Fg-1 for AC and a specific capacity of 1598 Fg-1 for AC/PANI at current density of 1 Ag-1. The nanocomposites also showed excellent reversibility and stability after 500 cycles of voltammogram and charge/discharge.
