There is currently a major drive towards developing new applications innanotechnology, including advanced material technologies. As a result, manyengineered nanomaterials (ENMs) are coming along, promising new applicationsranging from medicine and the food industry to agriculture and environmentalremediation. However, alongside the innovation process for new materials, an urgentneed exists to understand in precise terms the possible toxicity upon exposure that suchmaterials might carry. This Frontiers in Toxicology Research Topic, entitled “Methods andProtocols in Nanotoxicology: Volume II,” pinpoints key contributions from four innovativearticles that come together to develop a path leading to better methodologies in assessing thetoxicological profiles of nanomaterials.
