A relatively simple flow-line model is presented for the description of the deformation mode in equal channel angular extrusion. The plastic deformation zone (PDZ) is assumed to be fan-shaped. It is shown that the trajectory of the material flow within the PDZ has an elliptic shape. Analysis of experimental flow lines in Al deformed in 90 and 120 dies shows that the form of the flow lines is approximately elliptical.
